Ministry of Healh & Family Welfare has identified The Institute of Medical Sciences- one of the three institutes of Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India as Regional Resource Center in Eastern Region.

BHU Telemedicine thus has to set up suitable linkages with identified district hospitals in the state of Uttar Pradesh through telemedicine network to enable access to super-specialty Tertiary health care facility.

Dr. S. K. Mishra, Nodal Officer, NRC-NMCN, SGPGIMS, Lucknow wrote a letter on 11-June-2016 to Director of Institute of Medical Sciences about his visit from National Resource Center (NRC)- SGPGIMS on 16th June 2016. On 15-Sept-2016, 4 members visited the probable sites for Telemedicine project in Institute of Medical Sciences and SSL Hospital. An area in SSL Hospital was selected with the idea of future expansion as it will be working as a Regional Resource Centre with a responsibility to assist them to develop their Telemedicine centres in India. Later on the same day, members had a detailed meeting under chairmanship of Prof. V. K. Shukla, Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. Meeting was attended by Prof. V . K. Shukla (Director, IMS, BHU), Prof. S. K Mishra (Nodal Officer, NRC, SGPGIMS, Lucknow), Dr. O. P. Upadhyay (Medical Superintendent), Sir Sunder Lal Hospital (BHU), Shri Jitendra Arora (Director,Telemedicine, MoHFW), Dr. Anurupa Roy (Associate Consultant, MOHFW) and Dr. Ratan Srivastava (Nodal Officer, Telemedicine , IMS , BHU).
