The Telemedicine Centre at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research Chandigarh is a pioneer in providing both basic telemedicine facilities as well as a highly specialized quality service to the people of this region i.e. Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Rajasthan. Telemedicine Centre is connected to 24 district hospitals and 3 medical colleges of Punjab for Tele consultations and to the Post Graduate Institute of Rohtak, SGPGI Lucknow, AIIMS Delhi, IGMC Shimla, RPG Tanda, Medical College Jammu and many others for interactive sessions through Video Conferencing.
Our Centre has been designated as Regional Resource Centre (under NKN) of North India. PGIMER is the Nodal centre of the North zone for the national knowledge network being connected to the medical colleges of J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana. In the months of August 2013 and March 2014, the department organized two Regional Workshops on Establishment of National Medical College Network (NMCN) at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Eminent speakers from the regional medical institutes connected with PGIMER and also many other medical institutes like SGPGI Lucknow, JIPMER Pondicherry, Medical College Cuttack, NEIGRIHMS Shillong and many other centers participated. Worthy dignitaries from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India played a significant part in the conduction, supervision and success of the workshop.
In the year 2005 our honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh inagurated the Telemedicine Centre an the link between PGIMER Chandigarh three medical institutes in Punjab
