What is Telemedicine - Intensive Care Unit (Tele-ICU)?

Tele-ICU is the use of health information exchanged from a hospital critical care unit to another site via electronic communications. Tele-ICU intensivists can provide real-time services to multiple care centres regardless of their locations. The technology was developed to address the increasing complexity of ICU patients and shortage of intensivists. Tele-ICU as a means to negate the shortcomings in current ICU care is being actively sought after. Tele-ICU is a 24x7 remote ICU patient monitoring system aided by real-time two ways audio-visuals and smart alerts. It is a real blend of medical technology with sophisticated telemedicine to improve ICU care delivery. Tele-ICU provides a solution to scarce ICU resources and shortages of ICU trained manpower.
